The South Fork Snake River near Swan Valley is world-class trout water. Bear Lake offers unique Bonneville cutthroat found nowhere else. Henry's Lake has trophy cutthroat, and the Portneuf River provides excellent accessible trout fishing near Pocatello.
The Portneuf River flows right through Pocatello with excellent trout fishing. Mink Creek west of town is also good. American Falls Reservoir is about 30 minutes away for walleye and trout. The South Fork Snake River is about an hour north.
Yes, Bear Lake is excellent for fishing. It's home to the unique Bonneville cutthroat trout and cisco (Bear Lake cisco) found nowhere else in the world. Lake trout fishing is good year-round, and ice fishing is popular in winter.
